AbstractThis book lists procedures, materials, special problems, and variations for playing 54 games designed to help children use their thinking abilities in play. The games presented were designed primarily for use in school with children aged 5-9. They give practice in such skills as planning, drawing inferences, seeing things from other points of view, formulating questions, and thinking of possiblities. Games were designed to avoid fierce competition, often stressing competition between teams rather than between individuals. Another aim was to provide children with some measure of success in almost all situations. All the games have been tested and revised using different groups of children. All levels of sophistication are provided for, including games adults may enjoy. Included are games for small groups, for 5 to 12 players, and for larger groups. Some of the games include: Definition Card Game, Last Letter-New Word, The Magazine Picture Game, Make a Rule, Mimic, and Alphabet Questions. (Author/SB)
